Seattle Mariners Felix Hernandez Throws A Perfect Game
On Wednesday afternoon, in front of 21,889 fans in Seattle, Felix Hernandez threw a perfect game. No hits, no walks, no errors, pure perfection.
With his 11 strikeout performance, Felix lives up to his nickname, and really is the King. It’s the third perfect game of 2012, joining Matt Cain and Philip Humber, who also threw his perfecto at Safeco Field.
As a matter of fact, no other stadium ever has been host to two perfect games in one season. Nor had their ever been 3 perfect games in one MLB season. This has truly been the year of the perfect game.
Seeming to get stronger as the game went on, Hernandez reached a three-ball count only three times in the game. After 8 innings Felix had thrown 32 balls and 66 strikes. Not only was the stadium buzzing as he neared perfection, but King Felix was trending on twitter, and MLB.TV just happened to make the SEA vs TB game the FREE Game of the Day.
Hernandez addressed the crowd after Wednesday’s game, saying Philip Humber’s perfect game inspired him to throw one of his own.
“I’ve got to throw one; I have to,” he said as his reaction to watching Humber. He then gestured to the crowd and said: “There it is. For you guys!”
